You can find us at House No. 1 in Jawahar Society, which is situated on R V Desai Road. We are right next to the Shree Cooperative Housing Society. It’s more of a residential neighborhood, so it stays a bit quieter than the big main markets in town. I’ve lived around here for a long time, so setting up the trading business in this house just made the most sense for the family. We use the front rooms for the work and some of the storage. There’s usually boxes piled up near the entrance and a lot of handwritten lists pinned to the walls. We deal with all sorts of items throughout the week. Sometimes it’s busy with deliveries arriving at the door, and other times we are just sitting and waiting for the phone to ring. My nephew helps me out with the heavy lifting when we get a big shipment in. We know all the neighbors, so we try not to make too much noise in the early mornings. The street outside is narrow, which makes it tricky when the big delivery trucks come through. We often have to go out and help the drivers navigate the turns. It’s a small operation, but we keep things moving every day. There’s no big warehouse or fancy computers here, just us and our notebooks. It’s a comfortable way to work, being so close to home. We take a long break for lunch.
