Gokul Chemist

Gokul Chemist is tucked away in Uma Apartment on the Main Road in Dandia Bazar. If you are looking for us, we are right across from Maharashtra Lodge. It is an old part of Vadodara, and the streets can get quite narrow and packed with scooters. I spend most of my day behind the counter here. People come in with all sorts of handwritten notes from doctors, and I do my best to read them and find what they need on the shelves. It is a bit of a juggle sometimes. The shop is not very big, so every inch of wall is covered with medicine boxes. I don't use any fancy computer systems for everything, just the basic stuff and my memory for where things are kept. Living and working in Dandia Bazar means you see the same faces every day. We talk about the local news or how the roads are being dug up again. It gets hot in the summer, but the fans keep us going. I have been here long enough to know which regular needs their blood pressure tablets every month without them even asking. We keep some basic first aid stuff and daily hygiene things as well. It’s just a regular chemist shop, nothing special to look at, but we stay busy. Working in a place like this means you hear a lot of stories from the customers and neighbors.
