Devendra K Parmar

We are down in the basement at 8 C, which is part of the Donted Estate in Subhanpura. The area is also known as Chinchu Bunder, within the Gandhinagar Society. A good landmark to look for is the Goa Workshop; we are quite close to that. My name is Devendra K Parmar and I’ve been working out of this basement for several years now. It stays nice and cool during the hot summers, which is one of the perks of being underground. It’s not a huge space, but we’ve managed to fit everything we need into it. There are a couple of desks and some shelving units for our tools and supplies. The lighting could be better, but we have enough lamps to see what we are doing. It’s a busy little spot, especially in the mornings when we are planning out the day’s work. Most of the people in Gandhinagar Society know us by now. We don't have a big sign out front, so you have to know where you are going. Just look for the stairs going down near the estate entrance. It’s a bit cramped when we have visitors, but we make it work. I like the independence of having my own shop here. We don't follow any corporate rules, we just do the work as it comes in and try to stay on top of things. It’s honest work in a simple setting.
