Our school is situated on Station Road in Sankheda, right in the Vadodara district. Being so close to the station means we hear the trains passing by all day long. It’s a bit of a landmark in the area because it’s been here for so many decades. The building has high ceilings and big doors that are hard to close when the wood swells in the rain. We have old-fashioned desks that have been used by many generations of students. The walls are thick, which helps keep it a bit cooler in the summer heat. Most of our students come from the local town or the nearby farms. Some of them have to travel quite a bit to get here by bus. We don't have a lot of money for new things, so we take care of what we have. The staff room is tiny and always smells a bit like tea and old paper. We spend our time checking notebooks and talking about the lessons. It’s a very practical place. We don't have a lot of extra activities or fancy ceremonies. It’s mostly just hard work and getting through the day. The hallway floors are worn down from years of feet walking on them. It’s a humble school that is just part of the daily life here in Sankheda. We don’t try to be anything else. It's just a place for kids to come and study.
