Civil Engineer

We are over at Vasna Road in Baroda, specifically in Yogeshwar Krupa Society. It’s a busy part of town these days. My office at B 56 is usually full of rolls of paper and various measuring tools. I’ve been doing this for quite a while now. Most mornings start early before the traffic gets too loud outside. I spend a lot of time checking drawings and making sure the numbers add up. Baroda is growing fast, and there is always something being built or fixed. I prefer the technical side of things, just focusing on the structure and the safety. My family sometimes complains that I bring too much dirt home from the sites. It’s true, my shoes are usually a mess. But you can't be a civil engineer and stay clean all day. It doesn't work that way. We aren't a big corporation. It’s just me and a couple of helpers. We know the local guys who supply the cement and the steel. It makes things easier when you know who you’re talking to. I like the neighborhood here in Vasna. It’s got a good feel to it. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to say hello or ask a quick question about a renovation. I don't mind. It's part of being in a community. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It is more about the concrete and the beams than anything else.
