Akbar Chasmawala

If you walk down Dandia Bazar near the Music College, you’ll find us in Sneh Sudha Apartment. We are right at 107, just opposite Sursagar. It’s a lively part of town, especially with the lake right there, though the noise from the street can get loud. We’ve been fixing frames and checking eyes for quite some time now. People often come in because they sat on their glasses or the hinge finally gave out after ten years of use. We have a lot of different frames sitting in the glass cases, some modern and some that have been there for a bit too long, honestly. It’s not a high-end boutique where everything is overpriced and the staff acts like they’re doing you a favor. It’s just us. We clean the lenses, tighten the screws, and try to help people see a bit better when they walk out. Sometimes the shop gets crowded with three generations of the same family all needing new lenses at once. It gets noisy, but we don't mind the company. The view of Sursagar is nice in the evenings when the sun starts to go down over the water. We’ve seen the area change quite a bit over the years, but the basic need for a good pair of spectacles stays the same. We don’t do big TV ads or anything. Most folks just know the name Akbar Chasmawala from being in the neighborhood so long. It’s a simple business.
