The Texture

You can find us at 16 Lake Palace Road, just near the Rang Niwas taxi stand. It’s a good spot because there are always taxis coming and going, and travelers looking for a ride. Our shop is called The Texture, and we tried to make the name fit what we do, even if it’s a bit simple. The building is older, and the windows don't always close right, but it has a lot of character. We focus on materials and fabrics mostly, so the shop is full of different rolls and piles of cloth. It can get a bit messy when we’re in the middle of a project, with threads and scraps all over the floor. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright lights. Most of the time, we just use the natural light coming in from the door. We sit on low stools and work through the orders we have. Sometimes the taxi drivers come in for a chat or a glass of water when it’s hot outside. We don’t really mind the interruptions; it’s part of being in this neighborhood. We’ve seen a lot of people pass through this road on their way to the palace. We just keep doing our work, day in and day out, making sure the textures are right and the piles don't get too high. It’s a quiet life despite the noise of the taxi stand right outside our door.
