Silver Art & Craft is tucked away at 32 Lal Ghat Marg, right behind the big Jagdish Mandir. Since we are so close to the temple, we hear the bells ringing all day and the voices of the crowds outside. It’s a noisy, lively area, but inside our shop, things are a bit calmer. We work mostly with silver, so the space is filled with small tools, tiny scraps of metal, and the sound of polishing. The shop is narrow, and we have to be careful where we step so we don’t knock anything over. We aren't interested in making it look like a modern store. The shelves are wooden and a little dusty, and the lighting is just enough to see the detail on the pieces we are working on. We spend hours bent over the workbench, and our fingers are usually stained from the metalwork. Most of our day is spent dealing with the small stuff that people don't always notice. We drink a lot of tea while we work, and sometimes we sit on the steps outside to catch a breeze from the lake nearby. It’s a busy street with lots of people looking for the temple, but we just stay focused on the silver. It’s steady work, and we’ve been at this spot for a long time, watching the city change around us while we stay the same.
