Mali Bertan & Bister Bhandar

Operating out of Reti Stand Central Area at shops 31 and 32, we spend our days surrounded by stainless steel and heavy bedding. It is a bit of a squeeze sometimes with all the pots and pans stacked up. We’ve been at this location for a good while, and the Reti Stand area is always buzzing with people looking for stuff for their homes. Whether someone is setting up a new kitchen or needs extra mattresses for guests, they usually find their way to us. It gets dusty being near the road, but we try to keep the bertan shiny. We aren’t big on fancy displays; we just put the stuff out where people can see it. It’s a family-type atmosphere here, and we know most of the people who walk through the door. Sometimes we are busy loading up a rickshaw, and other times we are just fixing the stacks of quilts. The work is physical and keeps us on our feet all day long. We don't have a big office or anything, just the shop floor where everything happens. It’s a lot of work keeping track of all the different sizes of utensils, but we manage. People like that they can just come in, pick what they need, and head back home. That’s just the way it goes here in the central area. It is hard work but we are used to it.
