Hast Kargah

Out on Bedla Road in Fatehpura, you’ll find us at number 52 in the Navratna Complex. We’ve been in this spot for a bit, focusing on handloom and traditional stuff. The name basically tells you what we’re about, even though we don’t make a big deal out of it. Inside, there are lots of different cloths and patterns that we’ve collected. It’s not the most organized place in the world, but we know where everything is. We spend our time chatting with weavers or people who just appreciate the way hand-made things feel. The complex can be a bit quiet in the afternoons, which gives us time to fold things and sort through the new stock. We don’t have a marketing team or anyone telling us how to talk to people. We just say hello and let them look around. If they have a question, we answer it based on what we know. A lot of the work involves checking for small mistakes in the weave, which is just part of how these things are made. It’s a slow process, but we aren't in a huge rush. We like the smell of the cotton and the way the colors look when the sun hits them through the front window. It’s a simple shop and we’re happy to keep it that way.
