Hulivana is a quiet place in the Yadiyuru area of Kunigal Taluk, and that is where you will find Gurushri Farmer Producer Company Limited. Being out here in Tumkur means we are right in the middle of where the actual farming happens. It is much better than being stuck in the middle of Bangalore city. We mostly work with the local farmers around the village. The office is simple because we spend more time out in the fields or near the barns than behind a desk. It can get quite dusty during the dry season, and the roads aren't always the best, but we are used to it by now. People here know each other, so work usually starts with a chat about the rain or the price of ragi. We try to group together what everyone is growing so we can get a better deal for the whole lot. It’s a lot of coordination and phone calls to different markets. Sometimes the electricity goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside and talk through the plans. We aren't trying to be some huge corporation; we just want to make sure the families here can keep their farms going. It’s practical work. Every day is a bit different depending on what is being harvested. We just keep the records straight and try to be helpful when someone has a problem with their yield.
