St. John'S College

St. John'S College is a well-known spot in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli. Our specific office is for the N.S.S. Programme, so we are often busy with things outside the usual classroom work. The college itself has been around for a long time, and you can feel that history when you walk through the gates. It’s a place with old trees and buildings that have seen many generations of students pass through. Down in Tirunelveli, it gets very hot, so the thick stone walls of the older parts of the college are a relief. In the N.S.S. office, we are usually planning some kind of community project or organizing students for local events. There are always stacks of flyers, sign-up sheets, and old records lying around on the desks. It’s a bit messy sometimes, but that’s how it goes when you’re dealing with lots of volunteers. We spend a lot of time talking to students who want to do something more than just sit in lectures. The pace can be slow in the afternoons when the sun is at its peak, and everyone is hiding in the shade. We drink a lot of tea and try to stay on top of the paperwork that comes from the main office. It’s a very traditional environment. We don’t have fancy modern layouts, just regular rooms and a lot of dedicated people. It’s just a part of the daily life here in Palayamkottai, keeping things moving for the college and the community.
