Sri K Ramachandran Naidu College Of Nursing

Out in Karivalam Vandanallur, which is a bit of a distance from the main Tirunelveli town, you’ll find the nursing college. It’s a quiet area, mostly surrounded by trees and some open fields, which is good because there aren't many distractions for the students. The building is quite large because we need the space for the labs and the classrooms where the students practice their nursing skills. You’ll often see the students walking around in their clean white uniforms, looking very serious about their studies. Nursing is a tough thing to learn, so there’s a lot of reading and practical work going on at all hours. We have a hostel nearby because many of the girls come from far away villages to stay here and learn. The canteen serves the usual rice and sambar, and it’s usually the busiest place during the afternoon heat. It gets very hot in this part of Tamil Nadu, so the stone floors of the college feel nice under your feet. We don’t have any fancy air conditioning in the main halls, just big fans that spin fast and make a lot of noise. It’s a straightforward place where the focus is entirely on the training. There’s no fluff here, just the sound of pages turning and the occasional lecture coming from one of the rooms. We’ve been doing this for years, and the building shows a little wear, but it’s sturdy and serves its purpose well.
