Down here in Panagudi, the school is situated on Thandaiyarkulam Road in the Bethel area. It is a part of Tirunelveli that gets quite a bit of wind because of the hills nearby. You can often feel a strong breeze coming through the gates of the school in the afternoons. The building itself is straightforward, with rows of classrooms that look out over the local landscape. We have a playground that is mostly red dirt, and the kids usually come back from their break with it all over their uniforms. It is just part of life here. The teachers usually gather in a small side room to eat their lunch and talk about the day's events. We use a lot of physical books and notebooks, so there are always stacks of paper waiting to be corrected on the desks. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed, though we do keep a strict eye on the clock for the lessons. Panagudi is a small place, so we often see the parents at the market or the bus stand. It makes the school feel more like a part of the neighborhood than just a workplace. We have some basic play equipment and a few trees that provide a bit of shade during the hottest parts of the day. The bells ring out across the fields nearby, letting everyone know when the school day is finally over. We focus on the daily routine and the students.
