Grace Matric Hr Sec School

At No65 on Bharathiyar Road in Jaihindpuram, you will find Grace Matric Hr Sec School. It is tucked into a busy part of Madurai where the streets are always full of people and activity. The school is a vertical building because there isn't much space to spread out in this neighborhood. We have several floors connected by some narrow stairs that the kids run up and down all day long. The classrooms are a bit tight, but we manage to fit everyone in. It gets quite warm in Madurai, so the fans are always going at full speed in every room. You can hear the noise from the street—the horns and the vendors—mingling with the sound of the teachers' voices. We don't have a big fancy lobby, just a small entrance where the watchman sits and greets everyone. The students here are mostly from the Jaihindpuram area, so everybody knows everybody else's family. We have our sports days and our annual functions in a rented ground nearby because our own space is small. The staff room is always full of tea cups and stacks of notebooks that need marking. It’s a very humble place where we just try to do our best with the books and the kids. We have been part of this Madurai street for a long time, and we just keep on with the daily work of teaching and looking after the students. It's not flashy, just a place for learning.
