Batcha Briyani Centre

The shop is located at No 48 on the Karur Byepass Road in Trichy. We are very close to the Chathiram Bus Stand, so there is always a lot of dust and noise from the buses going past. We start the fires pretty early in the morning to get the big pots going. You can smell the woodsmoke and the spices long before we actually open the doors for lunch. It gets very hot in the kitchen, especially in the afternoons when the sun hits the front of the building. We have a few long tables and benches where people sit close together to eat. It’s not the kind of place where you linger; people come in, eat their fill, and head back to the bus stand or their work. The floor is concrete and we wash it down several times a day. We’ve been here in Tiruchirappalli Townhall for years. I spend most of my time managing the crowd near the entrance where people wait for parcels. The bags are lined up and we try to keep things moving fast. Sometimes we run out of certain items before the sun goes down. We don't have fancy decorations on the walls, just the menu and maybe a calendar. It’s a busy, loud place but that’s just the way it is near a main bus stand like this one. We stay busy until the pots are empty.
