Seetharam International School

Out in Palamputhur, which is part of Orathanad near Thanjavur, our school stands on a fair bit of land. It’s a rural area, so things are a bit slower and quieter than in the city. You can see the fields from the upper windows of the building. We have several buses that go out to the surrounding villages to pick up the kids every morning. The staff usually gets here early to make sure the gates are open and everything is ready. We have a big playground where the grass grows fast, so someone is always out there cutting it. The classrooms are basic but spacious. We have a lot of cupboards filled with notebooks and chalk. It’s a long day for most of us, starting before the sun is fully up. Thanjavur can get very hot, so the afternoons are often a bit sluggish in the heat. We don't go in for anything too modern or complicated. It’s just a school where children come to sit and listen to their teachers. We have a small office where we handle the fees and the paperwork, and it’s usually cluttered with files. The building has been through a few rainy seasons now, so there are some water marks on the exterior, but it’s solid. We’re just local people running a school for the families around Orathanad.
