Shree Khodiyar General Stores

Shree Khodiyar General Stores is situated in the Shyam Dham Society at Sarthana Jakat Naka in Varachha. It is a lively neighborhood here in Surat, and there is always something going on in the streets outside. We set up this shop to serve the families living in the society and the surrounding lanes. We carry all the basic stuff you would expect from a corner store. From cleaning supplies to snacks and cooking oil, it is all packed in there somewhere. The shelves are mostly made of old wood and some are a bit crooked, but they hold the weight well enough. During the festival seasons, the area gets really crowded and we end up staying open much later than usual. Sometimes the electricity cuts out for an hour or two in the afternoon, but we just keep the door open for light and keep going with our work. We don't have a fancy billing system, just a ledger and a small calculator. It is a lot of work keeping track of what is running low, especially when the tea and sugar go so fast. We know the kids from the society who come in with a few coins for sweets after their school ends. It is nice to be a part of the daily life here in Varachha. We don't make any big promises, but we do our best to stock what our neighbors need.
