Shree Gautam General Store

Shree Gautam General Store is situated at 10/1292, Shree Shantinath Bhavan on the Main Road in Gopipura, Surat. Being right on the Main Road means we see a lot of people passing by all day long. The building, Shantinath Bhavan, is a well-known spot in this part of the city. We are a general store, so we try to keep a bit of everything. It is a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes and containers piled up. We have spices, grains, soaps, and all the small things that people forget to buy at the bigger markets. The traffic on the Main Road can be quite loud, so there is always a background noise of horns and engines while we are working. It is a very traditional part of Surat, and our shop reflects that. We do not have any computerized systems or anything; we still do most things by hand and keep our records in paper notebooks. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the shelves are a bit worn out from years of use, but they hold the stock just fine. We have customers who have been coming to us for many years. It is a lot of work keeping up with the inventory, especially when things get delivered in big sacks that we have to weigh out into smaller bags. We just take it one day at a time, serving whoever walks in from the street.
