Saraswati Provision Stores

Saraswati Provision Stores is tucked away at Amroli, just off J M Road in the Pulachi Wadi area. This part of Deccan Gymkhana has its own pace, and the shop fits right into that. We mostly deal in the basics that families around here need for their daily meals. There are big metal bins filled with different kinds of flour and grains, and the smell of raw pulses is always in the air. I sit on a small wooden stool near the entrance and watch people pass by on their way to the main road. The shop doesn't have a fancy sign or bright lights, just the usual stuff you'd expect. We have some shelves with packaged goods, but most people come for the loose items we weigh out on the scale. It takes a lot of time to bag everything up and tie the strings tight. I know most of the people who come in by their faces, even if I don't know all their names. Sometimes it gets a bit cramped when three or four people are trying to get inside at the same time. The building is old, and the walls are a bit stained, but it serves its purpose. Off J M Road, things can get pretty crowded, but Pulachi Wadi feels a bit different. We just keep the door open and wait for the regulars to stop by for their supplies.
