Sanjay Genaral Store

You can find us at Shop No.1238 in Sanjay Nagar, right by Udhna Station Road. Being near the station means there is always a lot of noise and people moving about. We have been here in Surat for years. It’s a general store where we keep all the small items that people suddenly realize they need. Batteries, pens, some household cleaners, and the basic food items are all here. The shop isn’t very big, so we have to use every inch of the walls for shelving. It can get a little crowded when three or four people come in at once. Sometimes the rain makes the street outside a bit muddy, but people still stop by on their way home from the train. I handle most of the work myself, though sometimes I have a boy helping with the heavy lifting. We don’t have a computer system or anything, just the old-fashioned way of doing things. I write down what we sell so I know what to order next week. It’s a busy spot in Udhna, and there is always something happening outside the door. We see all kinds of travelers and locals. I keep the shop open until late because that’s when the last few commuters walk past. It is just a regular part of the day for us, keeping the shelves filled and the customers moving along with their bags. We like being part of the noise.
