Over at Palanpur Nd 3, you’ll find us at Rajendra Kirana & Provision Stores just doing the same things we do every day. The shop opens early because people around here need their milk and sugar before they head out. It’s a straightforward kind of place with no frills or fancy signs. We spend a lot of our time checking the dates on the snack packets and making sure the rice bins are topped up. The space is a bit tight, especially when we get a fresh shipment of cooking oil tins that take up all the floor space near the counter. We’ve got a small fan that hums in the corner, trying its best to keep the heat away during the middle of the day. People from the nearby houses pop in for a quick chat and a few items they ran out of. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who know where every single item is hidden, even those weird things people only ask for once a year. The counter is worn down where people lean on it while they wait for us to bag their groceries. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook with neighbors asking if we have eggs in stock. We just give them a straight answer and get back to work. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s our life. We just want to make sure the shelves stay full and the customers get what they came for without any fuss.
