Plaza General Store

Plaza General Store sits on the main road of Navsari Bazar in the Sagrampura area of Surat. We are quite close to the Gaswali Masjid, which makes it easy for people to find us. The shop has been here through many changes in the neighborhood. We sell all the little things that people need daily, like batteries, pens, snacks, and toiletries. It’s the kind of place where you can find a bit of this and a bit of that. Being on the main road means there is a lot of dust and noise from the passing vehicles, but we are used to it by now. We keep the doors open and the fans running to stay cool. The shelves are packed right up to the ceiling because we try to store as much variety as possible in a small shop. Sometimes it takes a minute to find something if it’s tucked away in the back. Customers are usually patient and we talk about the local news or the weather while I look for their items. We don't have fancy signs or a big marketing plan. We just open up the store every morning and wait for the regulars to come in. It’s a very straightforward way to earn a living. Surat is a fast city, but in our little corner of Sagrampura, things feel a bit more steady and familiar to everyone who lives nearby.
