Running the Hari Om Kariyana Store & Povision Store in Adajan Dn Mouje Uravde Tal Mulshi keeps us pretty busy from the moment the sun comes up. The shop sits right there in the neighborhood, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the place over the years. We have stacks of heavy bags filled with grains and pulses that take up a lot of the floor space. Sometimes the floor feels a bit cramped when a new shipment arrives, and we have to shuffle things around just to find a place to stand. The wooden shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so I usually keep a small stool nearby to reach the items on the top. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because of the open door, but we try to keep the counters wiped down. You can hear the sounds of the local traffic and people talking outside all day long. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright signs, just the usual jars and packets that people look for when they come by. The ceiling fan wobbles a little when it’s on the highest setting, but it helps with the heat in the afternoon. Living and working here in the Tal Mulshi area means we know most of the faces that walk through the door. It is a simple life and we just focus on keeping the shelves stocked. We have a small window at the back that lets in a little bit of a breeze if the wind is blowing the right way.
