Gemini Novelty Store

The shop is at 6 Varachha Road, which is a pretty central spot to be in. Since it is right on the main road, it can get quite loud with all the scooters and rickshaws passing by at all hours. We have a relatively small space here at number 6, so we have to be smart about how we pile the boxes. It is a typical novelty store where you might find anything from birthday candles and balloons to small electronics or cheap jewelry. We spend a lot of time just unpacking new stuff and trying to find a gap on the shelves for it. The walls are painted a simple white, but you can barely see the paint because of all the hanging items. We’ve got some old fluorescent lights that hum a little bit when they’ve been on for too long. People usually stop in while they are waiting for a bus or just walking to the market nearby. It’s not the kind of place where people spend hours browsing; they usually know they need a specific thing and we help them find it. There is a lot of dust that comes in from the street, so we are always dusting off the glass counters. It is just a basic, honest shop where we work every day. Nothing more to it than that, really. We just keep things moving and talk to the neighbors when they pass by. It is a busy life on Varachha Road, but we have gotten used to the noise by now.
