Our shop is number 34, right near the Swaminarayan Mandir in Katargam. It’s a good spot because people come to the temple and then they see all the toys we have out front. Smart Gift & Khilauna has been here for a few years. We have a lot of plastic cars and dolls piled up. It gets a little crowded inside, especially on weekends when parents bring their kids in. The kids usually touch everything, but that’s fine. I try to keep the dust off the boxes, but being near the road means it’s a constant job. Katargam is a loud place, always motorcycles passing by. I sit near the door most of the day. We don’t have any fancy displays, just shelves we put up ourselves. Sometimes I forget where I put certain items because we have so much stuff squeezed into this space. It’s a simple business. We sell things for birthdays or just small treats for the little ones. The Swaminarayan Mandir is so close we can hear the bells. It’s a nice sound to have in the background while working. I usually open up early and stay until the street gets quiet at night. People know where we are because of the big stacks of toys outside. We just do our thing and try to keep the shop going one day at a time, mostly just hoping the kids find something they like.
