Everyone around here just calls this place Dadaji Ki Dukan because it’s been that way for as long as I can remember. Being on R C Dutt Road in Mahuva means there is always traffic and people walking past the front door at all hours. Some days it feels like the whole town passes by our counter. The shop is full of all sorts of things, and sometimes I even forget where we tucked away the smaller items. It’s got that old-fashioned feel where things aren’t always perfectly lined up on the shelves. My grandfather used to sit in the same spot where I sit now, watching the street. The floor has some cracks and the ceiling fan makes a clicking noise when it’s on high, but it keeps us cool enough in the summer. We don’t really do any big ads or anything like that. People just know we are here on the road. It gets busy in the evenings when folks are headed home and need to grab something quickly. Sometimes we stay open a bit later if there are people still milling about. It’s just a regular local shop where we know most of the faces that walk in. The air smells a bit like dried goods and old wood. We don’t change much around here because people like knowing exactly what to expect when they step inside. It’s just life on R C Dutt Road for everyone here.
