Bhagwati General & Provision Store

The shop at 35 A in Surat is where we spend all our time. Bhagwati General & Provision Store is a busy little place, especially in the mornings when everyone is out buying things they forgot for breakfast. We try to keep the shelves stocked, but sometimes things run out before the new delivery arrives. It’s just how it goes here. There’s a lot of boxes stacked up in the corners. We move them around to find what the customers want. It’s not a polished store with bright lights. Most of the time, the bulbs are a bit dim and the floor has some scuff marks from all the foot traffic. We’ve got grains, soaps, and all the regular household items. It feels good when a neighbor comes in and stays for a few minutes just to talk. That’s the best part of being in this part of Surat. We don’t have a big staff, so we do everything ourselves, from cleaning to checking the expiration dates. Sometimes the power goes out for a bit, and we just wait it out with the customers. Life here is simple but it keeps us on our feet. We don’t think much about being corporate or anything like that. We are just a local store trying to make sure our neighbors have what they need for their homes. It’s a lot of small tasks that add up to a full day. I usually spend the last hour of the day sweeping up and checking the front door lock twice.
