Ambica Super Store

Ambica Super Store sits on Pal Road in the Adajan area of Surat. It is a busy part of town and there is always something going on outside our door. The shop has been here for a while and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint if we ever found the time. We keep the usual things people need like flour, oil, and snacks for the kids. In the afternoons, it gets a bit quiet when the sun is hot, so that is when we check the expiry dates and tidy up the rows. Dealing with the distributors takes up a lot of our morning. Sometimes they are late because of the Surat traffic. The neighbors stop by to chat as much as they do to buy stuff. It is just a local business where we know everyone’s name and what they usually like to get on a Friday. We don’t have those automatic doors or loud music playing. It is just the sound of the ceiling fan and people talking. Sometimes the stock stays in crates on the floor because we run out of shelf space. It’s a bit cramped but we manage. People seem to find what they are looking for without much trouble. We just stay open until the last few people head home for dinner. It’s just work for us, keeping the shelves full and the floor swept.
