Al Rehman

Our little shop, Al Rehman, is located right in the heart of Srinagar over in the Nawa Kadal area. Specifically, you’ll find us at Saki Dafar Safa Kadal. It’s an old part of the city, and the streets can be quite narrow and busy during the day. We’ve been operating from this same spot for quite some time now. Most of our customers are locals who live just a few houses away. We keep a bit of everything on the shelves. You can find basic groceries, some household items, and whatever else people around here usually ask for. It’s not a very big space, so things are stacked pretty high to make use of the room we have. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting through the lanes, but they always make it eventually. When the weather turns cold in the winter, the shop feels a bit cramped because everyone huddles inside to get out of the wind. I spend most of my day just keeping things organized and talking to the regulars who stop by. It’s a quiet life mostly, just managing the inventory and making sure we have enough stock. We don't have any big signs or bright lights. People just know where we are. It’s just how things have always been here. I think staying consistent is what keeps the neighbors coming back when they run out of salt or tea leaves.
