J & K Handicraft ( S& E) Corporation

Our office is in the Emporium Building on Residency Street. It is one of those older government-style buildings that has been around for ages. We handle the handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir. The hallways are long and have that specific old-paper smell. We have several rooms filled with different items, from wood carvings to embroidered cloths. It is a bit of a formal place because it is a corporation, but we try to keep things relaxed for anyone who visits. We spend a lot of time filling out forms and checking inventory lists. The windows look out onto the street, which is usually busy with people going to the residency. We have some old wooden desks and chairs that have been here since I started. It is not a modern workspace with glass and chrome. We use regular ledgers and stamp everything by hand. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit by the windows to keep working in the natural light. It is a steady job, and we see a lot of the same faces every week. We do not do much in the way of promotion; the building itself is quite famous so people just know to come here. We take our lunch breaks together in the small back room. It is a quiet, predictable routine that we have followed for years. The work is important to us, even if the pace is a bit slow sometimes.
