Shear Illusions

You can find us in Sector-19, over in Pocket-Ii of Phase-I in Dwarka. We are at number 95. It’s a typical local spot where people from the nearby apartments come to get their hair sorted out. We have a few big mirrors and those chairs that always squeak a little when you adjust them. The floor is almost never completely clean because as soon as we sweep up one pile of hair, someone else sits down for a trim. We keep a radio playing in the background, usually some old songs or the news, just to fill the silence. It’s not a big fancy salon with white lights and expensive coffee. It’s just a place where we talk about what’s happening in Dwarka while we work. The spray bottles are always leaking a bit, and we have towels drying on a rack in the back. Sometimes the water pressure is a bit low, so we have to wait a second for the sinks to fill up. People come in looking a bit shaggy and leave looking a lot neater, which is the whole point. We have a bunch of old magazines on the table for people waiting their turn, though most people just look at their phones now. It’s a steady rhythm of snipping scissors and the smell of shampoo hanging in the air from morning until we close.
