Shahid Meat Shop

Over here at Bhogal Samman Bazar, number 15 is where we stay busy. Shahid Meat Shop has been in this corner for a long time. The market is always moving, especially early when the sun is just coming up. We spend our time prepping the meat and making sure the knives are sharp. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and keeping the place scrubbed down. People from the nearby houses come by for their daily needs. We know most of them by name. It’s not like those big supermarkets where everything is wrapped in plastic. You can see exactly what you are getting here. The street outside is narrow, so it gets jammed with cycles and scooters all the time. Sometimes it's hard to even hear yourself think with all the shouting and horns. We just keep our heads down and get the work finished. On Sundays, it gets really crazy and we barely have time to sit. My hands are usually tired by the end of the shift. We just try to provide what people ask for without making a big fuss about it. The shop is small, but it serves the purpose. We don't need fancy lights or music. Just the sound of the chopper and the regular talk of the bazaar. Sometimes we share some food in the afternoon when it gets quiet. It’s just how we live and work here. We've seen kids grow up and start buying meat for their own families now.
