Kallu Meat Shop

My family has been running Kallu Meat Shop at 37 Hauz Khas for many years. It is a simple spot. We get up early every morning to make sure the meat is fresh for the people who live around here. Hauz Khas has changed a lot lately with all the new cafes, but we are still here doing the same thing. You walk in and you see the counters and the knives. It’s not a supermarket. We talk to the customers while we cut the meat exactly how they want it for their dinner. Some people want pieces for a curry, others want something else. We know most of the faces that walk through the door. Sometimes it’s busy, especially on weekends when everyone is cooking a big meal. We try to keep the place clean and tidy, though it’s a lot of work. The floor gets washed down many times a day. We don't have fancy signs or big advertisements. People just know where we are. If you need a specific cut, you just have to ask. We have been in this same spot for so long that the shop feels like a second home. It can be loud with the chopping and the chatter, but that’s a meat shop for you. We just provide what the local kitchens need and try to do an honest job of it. It is what we have always done and we don't plan on changing things now.
