Raj Kumar Chicken Shop

The shop is located at Zamrudpur E-1. It’s been here for years and most of the people living around Zamrudpur know where to find us. My name is Raj Kumar and I run the Raj Kumar Chicken Shop with a couple of helpers. Every morning starts before the sun is even up. That’s when the fresh stock arrives and we have to get everything ready for the day. It’s a lot of cleaning and prepping. The floor gets wet and we are constantly washing things down to keep it decent. We have a few wooden blocks where we do the cutting. It’s loud work with the knives hitting the wood all morning. We don't have a big fancy sign, just the name on the front. Customers come in and tell us exactly how they want their pieces cut. Some want it for curry, some for frying. We know the regulars and what they like. Sunday is our busiest day by far. The line sometimes goes out the door and we barely have time to sit down or drink tea. It’s hard on the back and the hands, but it’s what we do. We don't use any fancy machines, just our hands and some sharp tools. When the day is done, we scrub everything again and lock up the gate. It’s a simple business but it’s ours and it’s how we make our living. We just try to keep the meat fresh and the customers satisfied.
