About Rahmat Fish Corner Shop – Food & Beverages in South Delhi
Our shop is tucked away in a place called Kumhar Wali Gali in Okhla Village, Jamia Nagar. It’s a narrow street with a lot of history and it feels very traditional. The shop itself isn't very big at all. We have our ice boxes lined up and we put the fish out so the neighbors can see what came in that morning. What we have depends entirely on what’s available at the big wholesale market that day. Some mornings we have a lot of variety, and other days it’s just a few things. The smell of fish is always there, and we have to be very careful with how we clean up so we don’t bother the people living nearby. We spend most of the day cleaning and scaling fish for the customers. It’s messy work and my hands are almost always wet. We don’t have a big glowing sign or any fancy lights. It’s just a simple front where people stop by when they’re out doing their shopping. I’ve lived in Jamia Nagar my whole life, so opening a shop here was just what made sense. We aren’t a chain or a big corporation. It’s just this one small corner. When it rains, the street gets muddy and business slows down, but we stay open regardless. We just provide what the local kitchens need for their dinner. It’s a simple life with no extra fluff and that's just the truth of it for us.
