Jatkaa Meat Chicken Corner

We’re right in the middle of the Okhla New Sabzi Mandi at stall number 9. If you’ve ever visited this mandi, you know it’s a very busy and chaotic place. There’re trucks everywhere, people shouting, and it can be quite messy. Our little shop is right in the heart of all that action. We deal with chicken and meat prepared in the jatkaa style. It’s a demanding life. We have to be at the stall long before the sun comes up to get everything ready for the early buyers. The shop is very basic, just some hooks on the walls and a few heavy tables for cutting. It’s not fancy at all. Our clothes get dirty pretty quickly, but that’s just part of the trade. People come to us from all over this part of Delhi because the mandi is the main hub for food. It can be very tiring to stand on the hard floor all day, especially when it’s hot outside. We don’t have any air conditioning, just some old ceiling fans that try their best. We talk with the other vendors nearby and share tea while we work. We don’t spend money on advertising or anything like that. The location in the mandi is enough for people to find us. If you need us, just look for stall nine in the meat section. We stay until everything’s sold or the market closes for the day. It is just basic, hard work for our families.
