Rakesh Kumar, the son of Jeet Ram, is the person who keeps things moving around here. The address is his home, and it’s where we store our tools and meet up to discuss the orchards and gardens. Bagwani is what we do—working with plants and trees to get the best fruit we can. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you aren’t used to the village roads, but we like the peace. We are a small group of growers. We didn't start this to get rich; we just wanted a better way to get our produce to the markets in Sonipat and beyond. Rakesh spends a lot of time on his phone talking to buyers and other farmers. The house is usually busy with people coming in to ask about fertilizer or to see if the trucks are coming. We don't have a polished look. Our hands are usually dirty and our clothes are for working, not for looking fancy. We take things one day at a time, depending on what the weather does. Some years are good and some are tough, but being together in this company makes the tough ones a little easier to handle. It is a real community effort for all of us involved.
