Our school sits at 160 MIDC on Akkalkot Road in Solapur. Being in an industrial area means there is always some noise from the factories and workshops around us. You can hear machines or the sound of big lorries moving along the road throughout the day. It isn't a leafy suburb with lots of trees, but it is where our students live and where their parents work. Most of them are employed in the nearby units. We have a solid building that stands up well against the hot sun. The Akkalkot Road is very wide and busy, so we are always careful about the younger children when they leave the gate for the day. Inside, the rooms are plain with white walls and wooden benches that have seen many years of use. We don't have a lot of fancy technology, just the usual green boards and paper textbooks. The teachers come from different parts of Solapur and some of them take the public bus to the MIDC stop and then walk the rest of the way to the school. It’s a long walk when the sun is out. We have water coolers for the kids because it gets really dry and dusty here in the afternoons. The school day starts pretty early to beat the worst of the heat. People in this part of Solapur know exactly where we are located. We've been at this address for a long time and the building is familiar to everyone.
