Orbit School is out on Fatehpur Road in Sikar, and if you know this part of Rajasthan, you know it can get pretty dusty and hot during the day. Our building sits right along the main road, and you can hear the trucks and cars passing by all day long. It’s a big enough campus for the kids we have, with a lot of open space that we try to keep clean, though the wind makes that hard sometimes. The classrooms are filled with the usual stuff like wooden benches and colorful charts on the walls. We have a lot of students from the town and some from the nearby villages who travel in every morning. The mornings are usually a bit chaotic with everyone arriving at once, but once the first bell rings, things settle down into a rhythm. We aren't a fancy place with lots of expensive gadgets, but we have what we need to get the teaching done well. The teachers here are mostly busy grading papers or planning what to do next in their classes. You’ll see parents stopping by the gate to drop off lunch boxes they forgot or to talk to the office staff about school matters. It’s a very local feel here. We’ve been part of the Sikar community for a while, so we know a lot of the families by name. Life here is just about showing up and making sure the kids learn something.
