Yachna Farmer Producer Company Limited

Our outfit is called Yachna Farmer Producer Company Limited and we operate out of Rora. Sh Sitaram, who is Gaya Ram’s son, handles most of the coordination from his place. It’s a local effort, through and through. We started this because we saw that individual farmers in our village were having a hard time getting a fair deal. By grouping together, we can buy what we need in bulk and hopefully get a better price when it’s time to sell the harvest. It isn’t some high-tech operation. Most days involve a lot of walking through the fields and checking on the crops. Rora is a quiet place and we like to keep things straightforward. We don’t use any of those big business words. We just talk about the rain, the pests, and how the soil is looking this year. It’s hard work and the sun can be brutal, but that’s just part of the job. Sometimes we meet up at Sitaram’s and just drink tea while we figure out the plans for the next month. There are plenty of challenges, like when the crops don't grow as well as we hoped, but having the company makes it feel like we aren't alone in it. We are just local people trying to make the most of what we have. We aren't trying to impress anyone, just doing what needs to be done to keep the farms going and our families taken care of.
