Sri Amman Rice Mill

The machines make a lot of noise here, especially in the afternoons when we have a lot of grain to get through. We are located out on Plot No 363/41 C, just past the post office on the east side of Rajapalayam. If you’re heading towards Valapady, you’ll probably hear the hum of the mill before you see it. It’s a dusty job, and by the end of the day, everything is covered in a fine layer of rice hulls. We spend our time loading bags and checking the quality of what comes out of the mill. Farmers bring their harvest in, and we do our best to get it processed without too much delay. The building itself is older, with a high roof to keep it from getting too hot, though it still gets pretty warm in the summer months. There’s always a tractor or a small truck parked out front waiting for its turn. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small corner where we keep the records. Sometimes the rain slows things down, and we have to be careful with the storage. It’s honest work that’s been going on here for quite some time now. Most of the people who come here are regulars who have been using this mill for years. We just keep the gears greased and the floors swept as best as we can while the work continues through the week.
