Sree Jayamurugan Sago Factory is right on No:1, Salem Main Road in Mummudi. We are in the Thalaivasal area of Attur. This is where we process sago from the tapioca roots that come in from the local fields. The factory has been a part of this landscape for quite some time. You can see the steam rising from the processing units from the road. It’s a very hands-on kind of business. We spend our days watching the machinery and making sure the quality of the sago pearls is right before they get bagged up. The Salem Main Road is usually busy with trucks carrying agricultural goods, and we are one of those stops. It’s often hot inside the factory because of the drying process, so we all wear light clothes and drink plenty of water. There isn’t much of a front office; usually, you just walk in and find one of us near the bagging area. We don’t have a website or any of those modern things. Most of our customers have been buying from us for decades, and they just call us or show up at the gate. We have a small yard where the trucks park to load up the heavy bags. It’s a simple life focused on the harvest and the production cycles. We work hard when the roots are in season and take it a bit easier when things slow down after the harvest ends.
