Selvam Rice Store

We are located at Shop No.45 in Gudamalai Village right near the post office in the Gangavalli Block. It is a small village shop and we have been here for a good while now. My family runs the place and we mostly just sell different kinds of rice to the people living around here. The shop is filled with heavy bags of grain and the smell is something you get used to after a while. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions for customers who come in with their own bags or containers. It’s a lot of lifting and moving stuff around which keeps us busy. The floor is made of rough concrete and there’s always a little bit of rice scattered about no matter how much we sweep. We don’t have a computer or anything fancy to track sales. Everything goes into a little notebook that we keep behind the counter. People from the village come in to talk about their families or the weather while they wait. It feels more like a community spot than just a store. Gangavalli is a quiet area and we like being part of the daily routine for the folks here. We stay open until the sun goes down and then we head home. It’s a simple business but it keeps us going and we know our customers by their first names.
