Salem Food Products Ltd is located at 121, Sankari Main Road. This part of Kathayammal Nagar gets a lot of traffic, especially big trucks passing through. The building is a bit of a walk from the main bus stop, but it’s easy to find because of the address. Inside, the space is mostly taken up by the machines we use for processing. It’s quite a large area compared to some of the smaller shops nearby. The heat in Salem can be really intense, and inside the factory, it gets even hotter when everything is running. We have a few big fans, but they mostly just move the warm air around. The floors are hard concrete and we have to wash them down every single evening. It’s a lot of physical work, moving crates and checking the equipment. We have a small office tucked in the corner with a metal desk and some old chairs for when we need to do the billing. Most of the people working here live nearby in Kathayammal Nagar, so they just walk or ride their cycles to work. The noise from Sankari Main Road never really stops, so you just get used to the sound of horns and engines in the background. It’s a busy environment and there is always something that needs fixing or cleaning. We just keep our heads down and get through the daily list of chores without making a big fuss about it.
