A.K.S. Textiles

A.K.S. Textiles is right on the Cuddalore Main Road in Ammapet, so there’s never a quiet moment. The dust from the road comes right in through the front, so we are always wiping down the tables. We have been at 78-C, Vivekananda Nagar for quite some time now. It’s a busy spot. Inside, there are stacks of textiles piled up almost to the ceiling. You have to be careful walking through the aisles or you might knock something over. We don't have any air conditioning, just the breeze from the road and a few ceiling fans that don't do much in the peak of summer. My uncle started this place, and I’ve been helping out since I finished school. We don't do any big advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here because of the sign out front. Sometimes the electricity acts up, and we have to work by the light coming in from the door. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting rolls and measuring out yards for people who stop by. We usually close up late, especially when we’re expecting a delivery from the mills. It’s just a normal day-to-day grind for us here in Salem. We just try to keep up and get things done for everyone.
