Panicum Millet Farmer Producer Company Limited

Over here in Chopta, we mostly think about the millet. Panicum Millet Farmer Producer Company Limited is what we call our group. We’re set up at Showdat’s place in Maniram Rrampuradhillonnathusari. It's a long name for a small spot, but it’s where we get things done. Millet is a tough crop, which is good because the weather around here can be pretty harsh. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles. It’s mostly just us getting together to figure out the planting and the sales. We’ve all known each other since we were kids. Working as a group lets us get better prices sometimes, which helps everyone out. It’s not a fancy business. It’s just a bunch of neighbors trying to make a living off the dirt. There’s usually a bit of dust on everything and plenty of tea being drank while we talk. We don’t really do big speeches. We just look at the plants and the sky. If the rains come, we’re happy. If not, we figure it out together. That’s really all there is to it. We keep our records in a simple way and try not to let the stress get to us. It’s a slow life, but we like it that way. We just keep planting and hoping for the best every year.
