Vande Mataram Science School

Down here in Mavdi Plot, specifically on New Mayaninagar Main Road, is where you'll find Vande Mataram Science School. It’s a local spot in Rajkot. We mostly focus on the older kids who want to study science subjects and prepare for their future. The building isn't anything spectacular, just a standard block with labs and classrooms. We spend a lot of our time in the labs, so the rooms usually smell a bit like vinegar or smoke from the burners. It’s a busy street outside, so there’s always noise from the shops and the bikes going past. In the mornings, the students line up for prayer and then head straight to their desks. We have a few cupboards full of old glass beakers and models of the human body that have seen better days. The teachers here are mostly locals who walk or ride their scooters to work every day. We don’t really do much in the way of big events, we just stick to the syllabus and try to make sure everyone passes their exams. During the lunch break, the students sit on the stairs or out in the small yard to eat their tiffins together. It’s a simple routine that we have followed for years. We go home when the sun starts to set and the traffic gets heavy. Sometimes parents come by in the evening to talk about grades or behavior. It’s just how things go at a neighborhood school like ours.
