Our foundry is situated on Nh-8B, along Gondal Road in the Verval area of Shapar. Being right on the highway makes it easy for the big lorries to find us, though the dust from the road is a constant battle. We spend our days working with molten metal and sand molds. It’s a grit-under-your-fingernails kind of job. The workshop is a large, open shed where the heat really builds up by midday. We have a group of workers who have been with us since we started, and they really know their way around a furnace. There’s always a rhythmic clanking of tools and the roar of the blowers going on. We don’t have any polished floors or air-conditioned lobbies here. The small office we do have is mostly for keeping the tax papers and order forms in some kind of order. Most of the time, the boss is out on the floor with everyone else, checking the quality of the latest batch. We eat our meals together under the shade of a few trees at the back of the property when it’s too hot inside the shed. It’s a straightforward life. We focus on the casting process and try to keep the machines running without too many breakdowns. When the sun starts to set over the highway, we clean up the tools and get ready to do it all over again the next day.
