Dr. R D Gardi Shaikhsanik Sankul

Down Jamnagar Road in Rajkot, our school sits as a bit of a landmark for the locals. Dr. R D Gardi Shaikhsanik Sankul is a large space, and it takes a lot of effort to keep it all moving. Every morning, the main gate sees a steady stream of students and staff coming in from across the city. The Jamnagar Road area is always growing, so there’s always construction noise or something happening nearby. Inside the sankul, we have different sections for different ages, and it can get a bit confusing if you aren’t used to the layout. We don’t use any high-tech systems for everything; a lot of it is still done with paper files and hand-written notes. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but it works for us. The courtyard gets really hot in the summer, so everyone stays in the shade of the corridors during the breaks. We have a lot of long-time workers here who remember when the trees were much smaller. It’s a place that feels lived-in. There are scuff marks on the walls and the desks are a bit worn, but that’s just because so many kids have used them over the years. We focus on the daily lessons and making sure the exams are handled properly. It’s a busy life here on Jamnagar Road, but we’ve found a rhythm that keeps the school going year after year without needing anything flashy.
